Energy Management

Although Korea has yet to be obliged to reduce its gas emissions as stipulated in the Kyoto Protocol, Korea is the world`s 9th nation in terms of gas emissions.
Given the global trend, coupled with the demands of customers at home and abroad, Samsung Techwin has been structuring a system to deal with such demands in a timely manner.

Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Purpose: To identify the gas emission source / amount to develop measures to reduce greenhouse gases

Scope: Total 6 locations (1,2,3, Sungnam factory, HRD center, dormitories)

Gas : Total of 6 types (CO₂, CH₄, N₂0, HFC, SF6, PFC)

Total emissions (based on 2004) : 64,725 ton (CO₂conversion)

Source: Electricity (83.3%), Fuel (16.4%), Cars (0.3%)

(Scope of greenhouse gas inventory establishment)

(Classification and application for preparing the Greenhouse Gas Inventory)

Classification Use of power
MANDATORY #1 Gas emissions directly from the sources under the control of the
business or ownership
- Fixed emissions: Fuels for combustion equipment
(boiler, emergency generator etc)
- Fugitive emissions: industrial wastewater, septic tank treatment,
air conditioner’s refrigerant
#2 Emissions as a result of using electricity, heat or steam
- Electrical power consumption
OPTION #3 Gas emissions from the source under the control of other business or ownership
- Portable combustion: Commuter bus (outsourcing), indivisual cars
- Fugitive emissions: Incineration / reclamation of industrial wastes
(outsourcing)OPTIONAL

Samsung Techwin continuously monitors emissions of greenhouse gases, the main culprits of global warming
from its production activities.

As a result of an accelerated growth we underwent since 2004, there has been a sharp increase in consumption of power and fuels at our production sites. To curb the growth of greenhouse gas emissions, we are conducting company-wide energy-saving campaigns and upgrading our equipment and facilities to make them more energy efficient.
